New Year, New Records
(Scene opens inside the Duncan McIver Arena during a WWX house show taping. The lights in the arena go out and a spotlight shines onto the entrance stage. Just then, “Crawling in the Dark” by Hoobastank floods the arena speakers as WWX superstar, Willie Steen, walks out onto the stage. He is wearing a black leather jacket, jeans, and his trademark sunglasses with the Television title in one hand and the Tag Team title in the other. He looks out over the crowd and stretches his arms out wide, holding up the belts in triumph. After gesturing for a moment, he rests the belts on his shoulders and saunters down to the ring with a smug look on his face. He slides into the ring and grabs a microphone as the crowd remains vocal.)

Happy New Year, indeed, WWX. So, I gotta ask. How are all those New Year’s Resolutions going for you guys? Have you been able to keep up and stick with it. Going to the gym, eating better, losing weight, getting that promotion. You know, all that “new year, new you” jazz. Is it a new year? Is it new you? Or like every other year, did you give up eight days in after realizing your own weakness and the sheer futility of your existence.

(Crowd boos loudly. Steen haughtily peers over the edge of his sunglasses.)

Judging by the fat, ugly, disgusting faces that I’m surrounded by right now, I’m gonna have to assume the latter.

(Boos intensify)

You wanna know what I resolved this year?

(Steen looks down at the belts in his hand.)

It wasn’t to shed pounds, or get in shape. Nor was it to get more money or fame or even women. No, my resolution was very simple and very basic. Vindication.

(Pushes up his sunglasses)

I walked into this company five years ago and from day damn one, I have proved night in and night out that I am the greatest and most performer that the wrestling world has or will ever see. There is no one on this roster who can bring what I bring to the table. I am the most talented, most athletic, most charismatic and by far the best-looking superstar in this entire company, if not the world. I am singlehandedly, the reason that Ravage has pulled in the ratings that is has for the past five years.

(Fans voice their disagreement. Steen shakes his head.)

But do I get the credit that I deserve? Of course not. Over the last two years, I have been routinely ignored, disrespected and passed over as if I’m some local job guy. In fact, after headlining Hall of Pain three years ago, I have been unceremoniously left off the pay-per-view the last two years in a row. You don’t do that to someone who has been carrying your promotion for the last half-decade. That’s why this year, I made just the one resolution. To seek vindication. To prove to everyone once and for all, beyond a shadow of a doubt that I am a worthy and legitimate main event star. To do this, I knew I had to make a statement. A big statement. Something that you people couldn't ignore or deny.

(Looks down at the belts in his hand and raises them over his head)

Statement delivered.

(Steen defiantly holds the belts in the air as the crowd reacts)

Do you see me now? As you can clearly tell, my new year is already a resounding success. Three weeks ago, I won the WWX Tag Team Championship, despite an insufferable and unwanted tag team partner. A praiseworthy feat, but that wasn't enough. Not for me. No, last week at Holiday Hell, I doubled down by simultaneously becoming the WWX Television Champion. But not just any Television Champion. A five-time WWX Television Champion. The FIRST EVER five-time Television Champion. That means that as of Holiday Hell, I have officially had more Television Title reigns than any wrestler in WWX history!

(Steen lowers the mic and nod his head defiantly at the crowd, letting his words sink in. After a moment he lifts the mic back up)

Folks, there is no more debate about it. You are bearing witness to a living legend in the making. I have been saying it for five years and now I’ve just given you the numbers and facts to prove it. Its time for you all to recognize. I'm the smoothest operator in professional wrestling and I'm just getting started. Happy New Year.

(Steen drops the mic and raises his belts in the air. He walks around gesturing for the crowd as the scene fades to black.)
